Faith Based

A couple months ago I was updating my photography website. I asked my husband to proof read my final draft. He normally does this by quickly scrolling through and saying "looks good". This time was different; as he was reading through my 'about me' tab he asked "Why did you put faith based?" I said I wanted people to know that Christianity is the core of who I am and how I run my business. I wondered for a second if I misused the term faith-based, so I decided to dig into the phrase a little more.

I learned that faith-based means 'affiliated by, supported by, or based on a religion.' After reading the description, 'faith-based' seemed too vague to me. The Bible encourages us to be bold and active in our faith not passive or timid. I could do better. This is when I landed on 'Christian-based'. Direct and to the point. I was happy with it.

Im sure, right about now, you are thinking exactly what my husband was thinking. "Why does it matter?" My photography business is fairly new. How many people will even see that two word phrase. After researching terms and faith-based businesses for about 20 minutes, I began to have the same thoughts as you; Is it that important?

During my deep dive internet search of the term 'Faith-based' I came across a Reddit thread that made me question my decision. When asked 'What are your thoughts on if a business is Christian based?' The answers read:

~

'I take it as a red flag if a place is advertising that it's Christian-based. To me that seems like they're profaning their religion for a dollar, plus I've had a handful of experiences with the people doing that being underhanded.'

~

'Avoid, the Christian morals lightly disturb me, and if you're there for a business transaction, adding religion to the mix feels like weaponizing it or supporting it.'

~

'I figure they're dishonest and/or incompetent and advertising their religion in hopes of luring in suckers who assume they can trust Christians.'

As you can imagine, reading these comments made me question if I really wanted any connotations associated with my new business. From what I gathered in my research 'christian based' can be a damaging label when gaining clientele. Many people feel as though supporting your christian based business is also supporting your religion, which they may not believe in.

Glory of God

Earlier I said 'my husband quickly scrolls through my website to proof read'. What made this time different? 'Faith-based' stood out to him. If it stood out to him, it might stand out to others. That's why it matters. I choose to represent Christianity, so that all may know Him. These two small, yet very impactful words, may be a somewhat meaningless label to others, but a heavy call upon my heart.

1 Corinthians 10:23

So whatever you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the Glory of God.

In conclusion

So what is Christianity?

To many, it’s the belief that Jesus died on a cross to save us from our sins—but what does that truly mean, especially to someone who doesn’t yet believe? What cross? What sins?

The truth is, the world is full of broken people. We all stumble, we all fall short, and becoming a Christian doesn’t magically make us perfect. What it does is give us hope. Because at the center of our brokenness, there is Jesus. He is the one who holds us together when we can’t do it ourselves. He is the forgiveness that meets us in our worst moments, and the love that never walks away—no matter how far we stray.

Christianity is not about pretending we have it all figured out. It’s about knowing we’re not alone. It’s believing that this life, with all its pain and joy, is a gift—and that we were made for something more. We believe that one day, we’ll all be called home to the One who made us. Until then, we live each day so that more hearts might come to know Him.

As 1 Corinthians 13:13 says: “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

If only the world could hold onto the faith that He is coming back for us, the hope of a beautiful reunion in heaven, and the everyday love He gently wraps around us—we’d begin to see just how deeply we are known, and how fully we are loved.

SO WHAT IS CHRISTIAN BASED PHOTOGRAPHY?

Christian-based photography is more than capturing life moments—it's about revealing the presence of God within them. It’s seeing with more than just your eyes; it’s seeing with your heart.

As a Christian, I believe that every person is made in the image of God, and every testimony is meaningful. Christian-based photography reflects that truth. It’s about photographing not just faces, but the love, the hope, and the quiet strength behind them.

We live in a broken world, with broken systems and broken people.

Luke 4:18 Jesus was sent to heal the brokenhearted.

For this reason, we should heed those powerful words in 1 Corinthians; faith, hope and love. Christian-based photography holds onto all three—and uses the lens not just to capture life, but to reflect the Light.

HOW DO I IMPLEMENT CHRISTIANITY INTO MY BUSINESS?

Photography is not my job, it's my ministry. While I may not always speak the name of Jesus in every session, I aim to reflect His love in everything I do.

I approach every session with prayer, asking God to help me see people the way He sees them. It’s important to me that they leave not just with beautiful photos, but with a feeling that they are valued far beyond what a lens can capture.

My goal is always to reflect faith, hope, and love. And through every image, I hope to show people that they are beautifully made in His image and that God is present even in the small moments.

Will you respect our beliefs, if we are not religious?

Absolutely.

While my photography business is rooted in my Christian faith, it’s built on the greatest principle in the Bible; love. You don’t have to share my beliefs for us to work together. I welcome and serve clients from all backgrounds with the same care, kindness, and professionalism.

My faith simply guides how I treat people—with compassion, integrity, and a genuine heart to serve. I’m not here to push an agenda. I'm here to create a space where you feel comfortable, valued, and fully seen.

No matter who you are or what you believe, you are welcome here—exactly as you are.
